Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday organised a symbolic Tiranga Shikara rally on Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake to honour the Indian Armed Forces for their decisive action in Operation Sindoor. The rally came days after the operation retaliated against terror camps following the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.
Leading the rally, Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson and BJP spokesperson Dr Darakshan Andrabi hailed the armed forces' success and said the operation sent a clear message that the era of unchecked cross-border terrorism is over. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Operation Sindoor was executed swiftly and successfully. The enemies of peace must have now found their answer,” she remarked.
The rally saw a fleet of decorated shikaras waving the Indian flag across the tranquil waters of Dal Lake. Local residents and BJP workers participated in the event, raising slogans in support of the army and national unity. Earlier, a Tiranga Yatra was also held in Pahalgam — the site of the April 22 terror attack — where local leaders, residents, and pony association members vowed to protect Kashmir’s peace and hospitality.
“This rally is our answer to those cowards who attacked innocents in Pahalgam. Kashmir belongs to India. We want to invite tourists with open arms and assure them that they are safe here,” said Abdul Wahid Wani, president of the Pahalgam Ponywala Association.
Later in the day, another ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was carried out in Srinagar from Sher-i-Kashmir Park to Lal Chowk, again led by Andrabi. Participants raised slogans praising the army and PM Modi, celebrating what they described as a historic message of strength and resolve.
